Samsung’s Galaxy S4 may be the flagship smartphone, but the Galaxy Note 3 appears to be creeping up on its smaller cousin. The larger of the two major Samsung handsets has just passed the 10 million sales mark. The Korean company’s phablet revolution is getting stronger with each new release. Samsung’s decision to build and release a smartphone with a greatly larger display than the market was used to was met with a fair amount of skepticism. After all, how would anybody hold it? How would it fit in the pocket? And most importantly, what would be the necessity of owning a smartphone with a 5-inch+ display?
The Galaxy Note 3 is one of the most high-end devices you can find on the market right now, and with 10 million sold worldwide in just two months, the range continues to go from strength to strength. The stylus was completely past its sell-by date according to most within the tech industry, but Samsung brought it back to life with the Note’s S Pen. Allowing users pinpoint control, as well as enhanced note-taking and scribbling capabilities, the S Pen has proved a major success story, especially in China, where the device’s custom stylus has been a hit with consumers.
We’ve already heard a lot of stories as to what the Note 4, set to be released next year, might include. It’s quite demoralizing that, after paying up close to $1000 on a device, you already begin hearing about what’s up next, but with the promise of greatly improved cameras, in both the new Note and Galaxy S5, it’s hard not to get a little bit excited. There was a notion that the Galaxy S4 hadn’t sold as well as Samsung might have hoped, but the same cannot be said for the Note 3, which is now staking a very reasonable claim for the coveted position of flagship.
