Amazing sun halos captured around the world

A sun halo is an optical phenomenon produced by ice crystals creating colored or white arcs and spots in the sky. Many are near the sun or moon but others are elsewhere and even in the opposite part of the sky. Commonly referred to as a 22-degree halo, it forms a ring exactly 22-degrees from the sun.

Residents of New York City were treated to a rare celestial even on May 14 when a sun halo covered the city sky.
