Google Nexus 5 could launch in May with Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie and feature a 5-inch screen as per the reports available. The Google I/O is to be held in May and it is expected that they will reveal the Nexus 5. Right now there are no details about the handset but rumour are that they will be sticking with LG for their handset. If these rumours turn out to be true then this would be the second Nexus handset from Google and LG.
The HTC Nexus One came out in 2010 and this was the first in the Nexus line-up. Samsung then released the Nexus S in 2010, followed by the Galaxy Nexus in 2011. The LG Nexus was the next to be revealed and this became the most popular of the Nexus family. This is thought to be coming with a very similar price tag to the LG Nexus 4.
The LG Nexus 4 was released on the Google Play Store and is sold out very soon. Continuing problems with stock have meant that the handset has been hard to get. Some people have said the LG have already started to make the prototype of the Nexus 5 and that the base for it is the LG Optimus Pro.
The Nexus 5 will have the very latest Android installed and this could be Key Lime Pie. This may be released in May. Specs of the upcoming Nexus 5 have only been speculated about. However the device is thought to have been based on the LG Optimus Pro.
It may have a display that is True HD IPS + LCD with a resolution of 1080p x 1920p. The display may be 5 inches with a ppi of 441. The handset might be without the button on its front display. If so software buttons would make up for a lack of it.
Some of the large players in the world of smartphones have bragged off their chips at the CES this year. We saw the Octo-core Exynos 5 Octa from Samsung, the Snapdragon 800 and the Snapdragon 600, both from Qualcomm. Nvidia meanwhile showed off the Tegra 4.
Samsung do not outsource their Exynos chips, therefore Exynos 5 Octa SoC may not be used. It is also unlikely that the device will have the Nvidia Tegra 4, neither will it have the Snapdragon 800. Qualcomm announced that the first device to have their chip would come out in the summer, the Nexus 5 however has been tipped for May.
LTE should be one of the devices largest selling points. The Nvidia Tegra 4 and its 72 cores will not feature in the Nexus 5. The Nvidia chip lacks LTE and it is expected that the Nexus 5 would have LTE support. Snapdragon 600 is making an appearance, but sources say that the handset may have the Snapdragon S4 Pro and that is will be overclocked. This means that it would have the Krait 1.7GHz processor with Adreno 320 GPU.
It has also been said that the Nexus 5 could come with 2GB of RAM, support for LTE and NFC, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and microUSB. It may also support the 3.5mm audio jack. A camera of 13 megapixels with support for LED flash, HD video recording, autofocus and may have Street View Photo Sphere mode.
The Nexus 5 may have a large case to make room for a larger battery, which would be needed to power the 5 inch display. The battery could be 3000mAh, which may provide a full days use on just a single charge. The LG Nexus 4 came with just 8GB or 16GB or storage. Therefore the Nexus 5 may be offered in 16GB and 32GB.
