Five most exciting cars of 2013

There are plenty of important vehicles on the way to come on roads this year, including GM's new full-size pickups and the redesigned Rav4. From the latest Shaguar to what may turn out to be the greatest sports car of all time, check out the five most exciting cars coming in 2013.

2014 Chevrolet Corvette

Chevrolet is introducing an all-new Corvette in Detroit on January 13th. Most of the details are still under wraps, but the seventh generation model is expected to be lighter and more refined than the current car, with an updated take on the 'Vette's classic lines. It's all-new 6.2-liter V8 will deliver at least 450 hp to the rear wheels and improved fuel economy because of direct fuel injection, variable valve timing and cylinder deactivation.

Jaguar

The F-Type Jaguar marks the British automaker's return to its very sporting roots. The compact convertible will be available with a choice of supercharged V6 or V8 engines and should make for a worthy successor to the legendary E-Type of the 1960's and 1970's.

2014 BMW i8

The wildly-designed i8 is a plug-in hybrid coupe that uses a three-cylinder engine and electric motor combo to deliver 400 hp of performance and up to 87 mpg. Also, it has awesome doors.

Porsche 918 Spyder

A little higher on the plug-in hybrid food chain, the 918 Spyder has the V8 engine from a Le Mans race car and three electric motors for a combined output somewhere near 800 hp and a top speed in excess of 200 mph.

McLaren

McLaren set the bar low for this one, setting out to build the best sports car in history. It's doing it with a coupe constructed almost entirely of lightweight and strong carbon fiber and alien bodywork. It was designed to make the wind bow before it. What will power it when it goes on sale later this year is still unknown, but rumor says that the engine bay will be filled with a V8 engine and a Formula One-style kinetic energy recovery system good for a maximum output of nearly 1,000 hp.
