Would you pay $1 to contact someone in Facebook not directly connected to you and reach their Inbox? Like a speaker from a seminar you recently attended, or a celebrity you really adore?
Apparently, you can do it if Facebook‘s “small experiment” gets positive results and become part of Facebook Messages features. According to Facebook, they started a small experiment to “give a small number of people the option to have a message routed to the Inbox rather than the Other folder of a recipient that they are not connected with.”
Currently, when you send a message to a person you are not connected with, your message will fall on the “Other” folder, a folder no one bothers to look into. With the paid messaging feature, you can be sure your message will reach the Inbox folder of your recipient.
Facebook said that the experiment is being done for personal messages between individuals in the United States. The cost for sending such message is $1, but Facebook is also planning to tinker with prices.
This move of Facebook seems like a good move. This will discourage spammers from continuously sending spam messages to you.
